The hiring of Ed Conroy may be a turning point in Green Wave athletics. With no real hope in sight for the football team and a baseball squad that is several years removed from being a real contender, college sports in Uptown (at the end of last school year) couldn't have been more stagnant. That said, the 3-1 Green Wave basketball team (as of November 24) seems to be taking a different direction. Conroy has launched an impressive effort to reconnect with students and alumni (including having his basketball players pass out flyers on gameday). You don't see Coach K or Jamie Dixon doing that.
Somewhat surprisingly, Fogelman Arena has been rocking over the past few games. Is a Conference USA championship on the horizon? Most likely, the answer is no. However, it looks like the Wave is poised for a resurgence under new leadership.
That is what inspired this blog. I will do my best to report on the Wave's performance while helping to provide a center for discussion of the basketball team. Thanks for coming.
