The Case for Hiring Frank Wilson, LSU's Assistant Coach

October 18th will go down as something of a Tulane holiday: the moment that - one way or another - the failed Bob Toledo experiment ended for the football program. Since his "resignation," there has been a flurry of speculation by Tulane students and commentators about the program's future leadership.

Mike Leach has been a popular proposal thus far. SB Nation has some solid coverage about what the Mike Leach sweepstakes looks like right now, with just about every mid-level to low-tier college football team in the mix.

Rich Rodriguez, who perfected his spread offense under Tulane QB Shaun King in the late 90's, is also being mentioned. Sure, Rich Rod is unemployed and whatnot, but he's not that far removed from coaching a BCS contender WVU. In other words, not going to happen. Too expensive, and not an attractive enough program for his attention.

The "just right" option is LSU assistant coach Frank Wilson. He earned the recommendation of LSU head coach Les Miles today. Aside from working for three different SEC programs, Wilson was also the athletic director for Orleans Parish. He knows the lay of the land.

I'll admit that he had an easy selling point at his past schools, but Wilson is credited for landing superstar recruits like Mike Wallace (now the top receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers) and New England's BenJarvus Green-Ellis, both New Orleans natives.

He's good. He's a young coach who could breathe some life into a program that currently has very little going for it. So in my opinion, Frank Wilson is clearly 110% the guy who should be at the top of Tulane's short list right now.

Oh yeah. He's also expressed interest in the job...
