Tulane vs. Memphis thoughts

A few quick thoughts about the football game against Memphis:

Fans, where you at?

Yes, Tulane was losing at halftime to Memphis, but that doesn't mean that half of the student section should leave! Tulane was only down by four, and while the end result may have warranted the abysmal fan numbers at the end, the score at half certainly did not warrant the mass exodus.

Did I mention that it was homecoming? HOMECOMING! Some may know it as the game where fans are supposed to show their devotion to the university and its processes by being wild, obnoxious, boorish, loyal, fans. There is no excuse for the stadium to be as empty as it was at halftime, especially during homecoming.

If you're going to make the trek to the Superdome, you might as well stay past halftime for goodness sake.

Mistakes are bad, really bad.

For those who don't know, Tulane was leading 17-14 just after halftime. But then the team degenerated into what has been it's frustratingly true self this season, a turnover machine. Be it a blocked punt (check), interceptions (check), or a fumbled snap (check), Tulane has continued to let these impede it's path to winning. Today was no different.

But let's not forget that Tulane outplayed Memphis without these. They nearly outgained Memphis by 200 yards, but by giving Memphis points and field position they gave the game away.

Hutson era starts with a dud

Mark Hutson's tenure as Tulane head football coach began with a dud against Memphis. Don't put this all on him though. Coach Toledo only resigned on Tuesday, and the team is adjusting. It would have been nice to see a win though, not only for the new coach, but for the sake of the program. Right now it seems like there is a lot of "new coach, same result" talk going on.
